The temporary Empire Field Stadium in Vancouver will be dismantled
Over a year and a half ago NUSSLI completed work on the 27,500 seat Empire Field Stadium. This stadium was the temporary home for both the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League and the Vancouver Whitecaps of Major League Soccer. The first event held in this stadium was a BC Lions football game in June 2010; the Whitecaps will complete their inaugural season before the facility is dismantled this autumn. This temporary stadium was constructed for the use of the Lions and Whitecaps while renovations were completed to the roof of their permanent home the 55,000-seat BC Place Stadium.
Empire Field Stadium was assembled using a steel modular scaffolding-based system. Of the 27’500 seats, 11,250 are under a steel roof NUSSLI had custom-fabricated for the project. Other features of this temporary stadium included a complete electrical, sound and lighting system, as well as a VIP area with 12 suites and media/press rooms. It was the first time in stadium construction history in North America that a fully functional sports arena was realized in only three month of construction time.
The NUSSLI Modular Stadium® is now available for a future stadium project, a stadium extension or a temporary seating solution.
