Temporary Arena for the “Schwingfest” in Frauenfeld
The traditional Swiss Wrestling Festival will be held from August 20 – 22, 2010 in Frauenfeld. Frauenfeld will once again host this major event, as it did in 1966. More than 200,000 culture, sports, and festival fans will join to celebrate this unparalleled Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival. The festival will focus on the traditional Swiss disciplines wrestling, hornussen and stone put. Entertainment in the form of yodelers, alphorn players, and flag throwers will accentuate the historical atmosphere with Swiss customs and traditions between the competitions.
The prized structure, where the wrestlers will compete in seven sawdust-strewn wrestling rings, is the Thurgau Arena. The giant formation is the ”centerpiece” of the “Allmend” fairgrounds. The temporary arena provides seating for about 47,500 spectators. Ten NUSSLI assemblers worked together with helpers from the Swiss Army to build the facility with a total area of 36,000 square meters and a diameter of 700 meters in seven weeks.
