Confederation Cup, South Africa 2009

From June 14 to 28, 2009, the Confederation Cup was held in four cities in South Africa. It was considered to be a test run for the FIFA Football World Cup to be held in the following year. The corresponding champions of the continents and the host and reigning world champion participated in this tournament. The stadiums in the cities Johannesburg, Pretoria, Bloemfontein, and Rustenburg were made FIFA-fit for the 16 games.

NUSSLI thereby overtook the planning for the complete temporary infrastructure. This included all infrastructural measures from A as in accreditation center to Z as in zone. They were planned, specified, and tendered through a local office. In addition, the organization committee was supported during the construction phase until all turnkey facilities were handed over to them. The scope of service also included the planning for special media facilities, all installations for the producing TV broadcaster, and the entire security facilities for the FIFA, the organization committee, and the fans.

Altogether, more than 580,000 fans witnessed the Confederation Cup in the stadiums. They were able to gain an insight on the dimensions that next year's World Cup will take on. The team from the USA, which competed against Brazil in the finals, was in for a surprise. Despite their 2:0 lead, the favorites from Brazil were victorious in the end, after making three goals in the second half of the match.
