CSIO Barcelona 2011
The international show jumping competition CSIO Barcelona was first held in 1902 by a group of horse lovers and is the oldest international sporting event to be held in Spain. Between 22nd and 25th September, Barcelona was transformed into the equestrian capital of the world as it hosted the 100th CSIO Barcelona. The Real Club de Polo de Barcelona (Barcelona's Royal Polo Club) was the headquarters for this attractive competitive programme comprising 12 classes, featuring the Grand Prix Ciutat de Barcelona, the Queen's Cup - Longines Trophy and the FEI Nations Cup Promotional League Final. One of the highlights of the event was the high level of international participation, with a total of 22 nations, almost 180 horses and 75 riders taking part.
NUSSLI was commissioned by its client AMG to construct various temporary structures for this important sporting event. This involved the construction of two grandstands with a total of 700 seats for spectators, a 22m-long footbridge and several platforms to be used for scoreboards and as a base for the various marquees. In just five days, a team of seven people assembled a total of 85 tons of material, the equivalent of five trailer loads. After the event, the NUSSLI staff needed just four days to disassemble all of the infrastructures.
