Exhibition „Magic Mountains“ in the Swiss National Museum Zurich

In the temporary exhibition "Magic Mountains – Switzerland as Energy Center and Sanatorium" in the Swiss National Museum Zurich, the healthcare landscape Switzerland at the turn of the 19th century is examined from March 26 to August 15, 2010. The exhibits, documents, and a historical stereo show report on unusual treatment trends and bizarre health theories, but also on high altitude spa resorts, thermal baths, and the highly familiar Ovomaltine and Bircher muesli. In the context of the four "Magic Mountains" Davos, Monte Verità, Zürichberg and Leysin, a closer look is taken at the formerly prevailing attitude towards health.

For the presentation of the exhibits, NUSSLI built a total of 13 standing glass showcases and 22 rectangular display cases, including complex standing showcases that at first glance look like real sandstone columns. In order to achieve this deceptively authentic appearance, the form of the existing columns in the National Museum were sketched and reconstructed in the carpentry workshop from round, profiled wooden disks. During the brief planning and production period of three weeks, four platforms with up to nine by four meters area, a wall with integrated spotlights, a 60-square-meter large curtain, and a pool with a glass railing were also built.
