Outlook Festival 2011, Pula

The Outlook Music Festival was held in Pula for the fourth time this year. A deserted battlement directly on the sea was the location for this unique bass music event from September 1 - 4. But the event catered for more than just bass music fans - lovers of dubstep, hiphop, and electronica were very happy campers as well. As in previous years, tickets for the event were sold out many months beforehand - another sign of the extreme popularity of the festival by the sea.

This year, Whole Nine Yards Productions had tasked NUSSLI with providing the event infrastructure on the Croatian peninsula. The project entailed the installation of stages, platforms, stairs and projection towers in a total of five locations.

At the ‘Harbour’ location, NUSSLI constructed an almost 17 m wide round arch stage. The main stage was located directly by the sea, and had to withstand gusts of wind of up to 110 km/h. The NUSSLI installation team also erected two platforms and one FOH.

At the ‘Moat’ location, the NUSSLI team constructed a 15 m staircase tower, a 12 square meters stage, a 5 m projection tower, and an 8 m double-staircase. The choice of the moat as one of the locations posed a real challenge for the NUSSLI specialists. It was completely grown over with vegetation, and was only cleared and leveled shortly before construction was to begin. The actual condition of the terrain posed a problem, as it did not match the original layout plan. Some of the construction material had to be transported on foot, while some was transported with an all-terrain forklift.

A team of specialists from Germany arrived in Croatia to handle the highly complex installation. The crew installed a total of 130 tons of material in 12 structures - some of which were quite a distance away from each other - in just 6 days.
