Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival 2010

As in 1966, Frauenfeld was once again the venue for the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival 2010. More than 200,000 culture, sports, and festival fans celebrated together at this unique fete. Focus of the event was thereby the competitive disciplines wrestling, hornussen, and stone throwing. In between competitions, yodelers, alphorn players, and flag throwers put on an entertaining show, enhancing the rustic atmosphere with Swiss customs and traditions.

The structural highlight was the Thurgau Arena, where the wrestlers competed in seven rings of sawdust. The vast formation was located at the center of the enclosed area and formed the «centerpiece» on the "Allemand" festival grounds. There was room for about 47,500 spectators in the temporary arena. The facility, which is 36,000 square meters in area and has a circumference of 700 meters, was built in seven weeks by ten NUSSLI assemblers together with helpers from the Swiss Army.
